About
Instructor Spero Asimos
I
began my Tai Chi journey more then 25 years ago. Little did I know,
at the time, I would someday become a Tai Chi instructor. As I learned
the power of going within and experienced the magic of Tai Chi,
often called "a moving meditation," I became more aware of the connectedness
of all life. The body has its own healing power and one way we can
tap into it is through Tai Chi. It is my desire to pass on my knowledge
of the healing powers of Tai Chi and Chi Kung to anyone willing
to set aside a few minutes each day to improve their quality of
life. My hope is to help you take your first step on your Tai Chi
journey and to travel with you until you can continue on your own.

Tai Chi and its Wonders
Interest
and participation in Tai Chi and Chi Kung over the last 25 years
has been tremendous. This growth has resulted in the awareness in
many communities of the benefits of Tai Chi training. More of a
fitness regimen than a "therapy". Tai Chi is gaining popularity
as an aid to good health, especially for older adults. The slow,
graceful exercises pay dividends in increased strength and muscle
tone, enhanced range of motion and flexibility, and improved balance
and coordination. In clinical trials, it has also shown an unquestionable
ability to reduce blood pressure and heart rate.
Many
who practice Tai Chi and Chi Kung find that it also offers
a variety of "quality of life" benefits such as improved concentration,
and increased sense of well-being, decreased feelings of stress,
more energy, improved posture, and better circulation. This low-intensity,
low-impact form of exercise is especially well suited for those
recovering from an injury; and because it is a weight-bearing exercise.
it is also helpful for preventing osteoporosis.
It
is said "be very careful when choosing an instructor and make
sure that person is well qualified and understands the essence of
Tai Chi." Not everyone has the ability to teach. A qualified
Tai Chi teacher should have more than 10 years of studding Tai Chi
& Chi Kung and at least 5 years of instructor training. To learn
Tai Chi and Chi Kung you will need to attend classes with a qualified
instructor. You cannot learn the true essence of Tai Chi from a
book or video. No special equipment is necessary, loose-fitting
clothing and lightweight comfortable flat soled shoes or socks are
recommended.
